Cabot ring

categin thumb1

Cabot ring- These are thread like strands seen inside erythrocytes which are remnants of spindle fiber appearing as a figure of eight, loop or ring. These look like beads on a thin string. Clinical significance- They are a rare finding in peripheral blood and their presence indicates a defect of erythrocyte production. They can be seen in pernicious anemia and cases of lead poisoning.
