Platelet indices : simple and effective tool in monitoring illness

Platelets are anucleate, colorless , disc shaped cell fragments helpful in the clotting of blood. platelet indices such as - MPV,PDW,PCT,PLCC/PLCR are calculated from various measurements carried out by hematology analyzers and are easily available to the users. They are valuable markers of platelet morphology and its production kinetics. These indices have been demonstrated to be of significance in severity assessment and monitoring illness through different studies. .

The Lasting Symptoms of "COVID-19"

Clinical testing is not always needed, but in long COVID Blood tests should be ordered depending on symptoms and after a careful history and examination, and to exclude conditions like pulmonary embolism or myocarditis. Tests should depend on symptoms (mild, moderate and severe). Blood tests CBC, CRP, Electrolytes, LFT, KFT, TROPONIN, D-Dimer, Ferritin, ECG remains important  but few tests particularly inflammatory markers like CRP and CBC remain significant not only for accessing disease progression, severity and prognosis but also in long COVID. D-dimer - Significance and Role as Prognostic Marker

D-dimer is a marker of fibrinolysis and is a fibrin degradation product (FDP), a small protein fragment present in the blood after a blood clot is degraded by fibrinolysis. Circulating levels can be detected as early as one hour after thrombus formation. A positive D-dimer result may indicate the presence of an abnormally high level of fibrin degradation products (FDP’s). It indicates that there may be significant blood clot (thrombus) formation and breakdown in the body.

Importance of Corrected WBC count in Hematology Practice

“Yumizen H series” comes with IMPROVED ALGORITHMS to give auto-corrected WBC count at no extra cost or additional reagent usage and which is prerequisite for diagnosis of many hematological diseases with corrected calculation of all blood parameters. Due to cellular interferences in the blood samples, an improved algorithm has been implemented on the Yumizen H Hematology analyzers series range in order to provide a more accurate total WBC and differential counts, by removing the interfered cellular elements. The WBC count is automatically recounted and do not need to remove potential cellular interferences from manual count.
